The Bright Lights of Benidorm
Sat in a prime position on the Costa Blanca, perfectly situated to explore further afield, this high-rise town boasts plenty to see and do, so I would highly doubt you'd ever be bored.
There are many cheap flights to Alicante all year around, with a short transfer once you land. I always try to find destinations with less of a bus journey to resort, as it's much easier in the summer heat. Cut the cost of your break even more by pre-booking airport extras, such as airport hotels. I always try to use this service wherever possible, and most airports offer a wide selection close by! Check out The Holiday Inn at Gatwick Airport for great deals, or alternatively, if you're looking for a more luxurious start to your holiday why not opt for the The Hilton at Gatwick.
Benidorm's surrounding area is beautiful and green, so I'd highly recommend hiring a car if possible and getting out and about. You might find this gives you a break from the bright lights too. Valenica and Alicante are in easy reach for a day exploring the city, with great shopping and architecture on offer. I'd recommend Alicante for those wanting a bit of retail therapy, as there is a huge shopping centre to explore.
Back in resort, and it's all about the beach for me. The resort has two main beaches, with Levante being the most popular. Its here you'll find most in the way of facilities and water-sports, but it's also the busiest. Head to Poniente for something a little quieter.
A great alternative from the beach is the huge waterpark, Aqualandia. I'd really recommend this as a fun day out for the family, and a fantastic way to cool down in the summer heat.
If water-based activities become a little tiresome, nearby Altea market is a great place to visit too.
After all that splashing, shopping and exploring, your choice of evening entertainment is varied, but whatever you choose, you can guarantee it will be bright and fun. Food-wise, I doubt anyone will go hungry, as many restaurants serve British food, however I'd highly recommend hunting down a traditional Spanish restaurant and giving some local cuisine a try. The famous paella is certainly one not to be missed.
Once your food has digested, you'll be spoilt for choice with a huge number of clubs, pubs and karaoke bars to choose from. Most all-inclusive hotels will have their own brand of entertainment also, so nobody goes without.
With so many bargain breaks to be had, Benidorm is certainly a destination to look into for a summer or late summer break. Costs are cut even further by looking at other airport extras, such as airport parking. If you're heading out of the capital, check out Stansted Airport parking for great rates and convenience. The peace of mind of knowing my vehicle is safe and ready for me on my return is a certain plus point that ensures I book this service time and time again.
It might be loud, it might be brash, but Benidorm certainly has a charm!
