Working Holiday Visas for Canadians Going to Sweden

To be eligible you must:

  • be aged between 18 and 30 inclusive at the time of application
  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • have an adequate knowledge of Swedish or English
  • be outside Sweden at the time the visa is granted

Visa Fee

The visa costs the equivalent of 1,000 SEK and is non-refundable.

Proof of Funds

You must prove that you have access to at least CDN$4,000 prior to applying for your visa.


There are 100 visas available each year.


The visa is valid for 12 months.

Employment Restrictions

Employment must be temporary by nature but there are no specified limitations.


You may leave and re-enter multiple times but the time allowed for your visa will not be paused while you are away.

How to Apply

Applications must be made in person to the Consulate of Sweden closest to where you live or at the Embassy of Sweden in Ottawa. You are required to submit the application form (available at the Consulate), a valid passport, two passport sized photos in colour (less than 6 months old), and proof of support funds.

General Comments

Visas will take 6-8 weeks to process. If you are living outside of Canada you can submit your application to the Swedish embassy or consulate in that country but you can't apply from within Sweden.
